Plug your ears, close your eyes, bite your tongue

"Ignorance is bliss", as the saying goes.

I think that being blind would be amazing!

Wait. What!? Brooke! I think you made an error there!

No...because lately I've realized that more and more people are living their lives blind to truth. Every day, going through their normal routine, trying to avoid conflict, trying to move around issues, instead of working through them. They're content without knowing the whole story, not trying to find out more, simply living in ignorance.

Ignorance? Now that's a big word...

MY humble interpretation of the word ignorance is, "not knowing the whole story and not caring to find out". Since I sometimes fail to define words properly, I decided to look up Mr. Marion Webster's definition. "Lack of knowledge, education, or awareness", a rather vague definition but I think that it is suitable.

Because ignorance itself can be very vague. Everyone has problems, whether personal self-searching deep questions that remain unanswered, or questions about hard, sticky situations involving past relationships with family or friends...and the easiest most popular solution for those problems? Well...let's do a little experiment and I'll show you.

Please plug your ears, close your eyes and bite your tongue.

There. That's it.

Now you know what it's like to live in ignorance.

Ignorant people don't want to hear anything other than their own opinion and what they believe; they don't care to know the truth or to even try to search for it.

They don't want to see the other person's side of the story.

They don't want to speak out or ask questions.

They plug their ears, close their eyes and bite their tongues.

Ignorance is like a poisonous drug, that once consumed starts infiltrating into other areas. It creates laziness and a desire to only live based off your own opinions, whims and feelings. It is a poison that kills love, friendship and all good feelings. It creates a numb approach to the world. People no longer care to hear the whole story, because their own version of the story is all that matters to them, and they don't want to change that.

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. MLK

I may not be very old so my thoughts are not always wisened by age and experience. Yet, over the years I have observed friendships and relationships that I never thought would fade shatter in horrible hurtful endings. Many times I would simply wonder why and there are never any good answers. But, there always seems to be a few similar variables in each broken relationship and situation: pride, attitude and ignorance. I still left out one of the largest factors in all, which is, in my opinion, forgiveness.

All of us, at some point in life, make a quick decision about something based off our biased opinion and it turns out that we were very limited in our understanding. We are right and no one can tell us otherwise. Unfortunately, this approach to life rarely reflect the actual state of affairs and leave many, even those who are supposed to be informing us (the media), with false impressions of how the world works.

Nothing is to be gained by arguing with fools, they can only understand their own opinion. Nothing can be gained by reasoning with ignorant people, their knowledge only extends as far as they want it to go.

Don't always think you know all the answers...no one likes a "Know-it-all"! Knowledge makes people humble, arrogance makes them ignorant. Pride will blind your vision. You can give an ignorant person knowledge but you can't make them think. Some people will remain blinded, because the truth requires them to change and they have no desire to do so. So, don't be that Christian! No one can ever know everything, but don't be afraid to search, open your eyes and let God show you things that you have been blind to. So, be the type of person that never stops learning, never stops growing and becoming a better LIGHT to the world living in darkness around you!
